Carson Young started the day one back of the lead as he entered the final round of the Blade Junior Golf Classic. After a bumpy start with two opening bogies, he righted the ship to end up at two under par for the day. His 137 total gave him a comfortable margin as he played the tough 18th . A conservative par gave him the three shot margin of victory. Kelsey Badmaev also fired two under in the final round with no bogies on her card. The Blythewood native was the only female competitor to finish the event under par. She won by an impressive five shots.
The youngest brackets had some great competition as they played the backside of Thornblade Club for the final round. Nick Willis (Cowpens) was the only player in the nine hole brackets to break par today and his two under 35 put him at 68 for the tournament and the boys 10-12 champion. Jensen Castle continued her strong play as a final round 41 left her 6 shots clear of her nearest competitor.
In thirteen years, the event has hosted some of the best competition in the state all the while raising vital funds in the process. This year’s event should top over $550,000 being raised for Children’s Hospital, Camp Courage, and programs of the South Carolina Junior Golf Association. Champions Tour Player Jay Haas, Event Chair Rob Reeves, and the rest of the Blade Junior Golf Committee have come together to provide a junior golf event that does way more than to define a champion.
