The Blade Junior-Am
As you may know, The Blade Jr. Golf Classic has been able to provide over $1,475,000 to support local charities such as the SC Junior Golf Foundation, Prisma Children’s Hospital and Camp Courage, The FRAZEE Center, and 1st Tee of the Upstate, among others. I am proud to announce that starting with the 2021 tournament, we began the Dick and Lucille Hendley Scholarship Fund. We are excited to partner with the Hendley family to provide scholarship assistance to a male and female Blade participant that meet the criteria set forth by the values that Dick and Lucille held in great esteem, Great Character, and a passion for Community Service.
Dick and Lucille Hendley were longtime Thornblade Club members and the grandparents of 2009 US Open Champion and 3 time SC Amateur Champion, Lucas Glover. Dick enjoyed coaching Lucas all during his junior golf and college career and could be seen on the Thornblade practice facility daily watching Lucas practice his skills. Dick was a former Clemson football player and played several years of professional football with the Pittsburg Steelers. Lucille was a great supporter of the Blade and couldn’t wait to open their house on the 16th green as a rain shelter every year. The Hendley’s were supporters of SC Junior Golf and truly enjoyed watching all juniors play the game of golf!
Please check the SCJGA and Blade website for more details regarding the scholarship application process.
The Blade Junior Golf Classic started a new tradition in 2002. The Blade “Junior-Am” is held on the Monday before the Classic.
This event was created to give our Corporate Sponsors an opportunity to play with one of South Carolina’s top-ranked male or female junior golfers at a premier golf course, Thornblade Club. The sponsors and junior golfers enjoy eighteen holes of golf and an awards reception following play.
The Blade Junior-Am and The Blade Junior Golf Classic have been huge successes in the past and we are very excited about the growth of our tradition. In our 23 years, the Blade Junior Golf Classic has donated nearly $1.475 million to charitable organizations.
